Getting ready
I had a blast going to concerts and traveling around. But reality is now settling back in. Time to kick my own arse so I can be my best getting back in front of my classes.
A few of you have asked how to get a great total body workout in 15 mins. Well... I would have to suggest a combination of a couple of things.
If you are short on time these are great. And there is no gym required!
After warming up a bit by jogging in place..
Jump rope. Try doing this for 3 minutes to start and work up to 10.
Push ups (You know I am a huge fan of these)
Your goal is to have the perfect form. Not how many you can do.
Once you have mastered your form try doing 10 and work up to 3 sets of 10
Once you are comfortable with that you can move on to variations of push ups.
Wide stance push up- Hands are placed wider then your shoulders
Triceps push up- Fingers are pointed out towards walls instead of straight
Elevated push up- This is when your feet will be on a chair, couch something other then the floor.
Diamond push up- fingers and thumb come together to create a diamond instead of straight on the floor.
The benefits of jumping rope are- Burn a lot of calories quickly, weight loss, improved agility, cardiovascular improvement and improvement in balance to name a few.
Benefits of push ups- Total body conditioning, build muscle and boost metabolism. Just to name a few.
One of the great things about push ups is you can do them any where.
And you can pick up a good jump rope at any fitness supply store and they can also measure you for the right size as well.
So go ahead and and give yourself a total body workout in about 15 minutes.
This is a great combination to really get things moving.

Biking/Cycling whatever you call it.
(I will direct you to my brother for that a little later)
Let me tell you about my brief encounter. (Thanks TOM!!!)
And how I think my brother was secretly out to kill me.
So me..being the "Oh so sweet sister I am" decided I would go visit my brother.
We were having such a nice time together when...
he suggests we go for "A little" bike ride.
GAK! I hadn't been on a bike since I was what? 7?
I said ok. How bad could it be? ( I thought I am in fairly good shape)
UGH... OUCH and DANG!
I was in for the shock of my life.
I figured we would go a mile or so and that would be it. Noooooooooo
As we are peddling along (for what seems like a day already)
He is smiling and saying "Hows it going Non?"
I smile with what feels like the last of my strength and slurrr out its great!
So now it feels like I have been on this bike for a week. FINALLY we are stopping. (I can hardly contain how happy I am as I oooze off this vicious moving thing people fondly call "a bike" )
Strangely I dont ever remember such pain as a child as I hopped on and rode around. Was that just a dream? Are there no such things as a "nice" bike?
OK so my brother all smiles says we are going to go get something to drink.
(My heart races as I realize I have to move my legs which means my butt is gonna start screaming. Not to mention my legs are about useless at this point)
So I manage to make it to starbucks and back. And the fear of getting back on that bike is consuming me. He says it "Was ONLY 8 miles ONE way" OMG!!!
So I made it through the longest day of my life. Lets skip to how my night went.
My husband the sweet...sweet man. So understanding as he "said he felt bad"
But was laughing as I had to put pillows under my butt & legs in bed so I could TRY and sleep.
So after this fine experience I had a few questions for my brother.
Doesnt his butt hurt?
Why would he want to do such a thing to himself?
Does he REALLY enjoy this?
Oh then I hear you can get calusuis on your butt? WHAT? Oh hell no! This is definetly not for me. Oh then I hear about the riding pants/shorts.
And yeppers he for some sick reason really does enjoy this.
So to my brother and the many people who enjoy this "vicious" form of exercise. My hats off to you. This is one thing I would have to say is WAY beyond me.
I will stick to the gym thank you.
I am proud that my brother has such a passion for this.
And I will always be his biggest fan. But I don't foresee my
"going for a little ride" anytime soon.
Keep riding and always know the respect I have for those of you who can get your butts on a bike and peddle your way to an amazingly fit bod.

JULY 22nd!!!!
Farmers Insurance Pledges to Match All Donations Up to $250k for “Be a Hero for Babies Day” to Benefit March of Dimes

Jerry Davies, Farmers Insurance Group

LOS ANGELES, JULY 7, 2009 — A matching gift of $250,000 by Farmers Insurance kicks off the upcoming “Be a Hero for Babies Day” to raise funds for March of Dimes programs of research and education to help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
Make a donation to the March of Dimes online at marchofdimes.com/farmers and the gift will double in value thanks to a pledge by Farmers Insurance, whose agents and employees nationwide will hold their fourth annual “Be a Hero for Babies Day” event on July 22, 2009 to benefit the March of Dimes. Through activities such as carwashes, golf outings, pancake breakfasts, and pie-throwing contests, Farmers agents aim to raise $2 million for healthier babies.
“Be a Hero for Babies Day shows a commitment by Farmers employees, agents and district managers across the country to help the March of Dimes improve the health of babies,’’ said Robert Woudstra, CEO of Farmers Insurance and member of March of Dimes national Board of Trustees. “It’s our goal to make a difference in our communities, especially for its smallest citizens.”
Premature birth is a serious and growing crisis in America, the March of Dimes says. One in 8 babies is born prematurely, and those who survive often face lifelong disabilities such as learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, blindness, hearing loss, and other chronic conditions including asthma.
“I challenge everyone to visit marchofdimes.com/farmers or their local Farmers agent to make a donation to help raise urgently needed funds for March of Dimes research that will save babies’ lives and for programs that provide information and comfort to families with a baby in newborn intensive care,’’ said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. “Farmers has an outstanding record of volunteer service, contributing time, energy, talent and financial resources to helping babies. We thank them for being a "Hero for Babies" and supporting the important work of the March of Dimes. And we’re especially grateful for the Farmers’ match, which effectively doubles all donations made up to $250,000.”
As the nation’s third-largest personal property and casualty insurance group, Farmers is committed to improving the communities where their customers, agents and employees live and work. Farmers’ commitment to the March of Dimes spans more than two decades and includes more than $25 million dedicated to research and education programs for infant health.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Beautiful Day
I hope you all got out and did something.
We decided I wanted to go hiking.
So Lawrence, Steven our dogs and myself when on a hike.
We went to the beautiful Hackelbarney Park.
We had a nice picnic and wow what scenery.
The dogs even wore their own backpacks as well.
Walking along the river with the sounds of the water
and that smell of spring in the air. How refreshing!
I cannot think of a better way to spend the day with family.

What is punk rope? Well it is a cross between recess & boot camp. Tim Haft (The creator of punk rope) and Shana were wonderful teachers and have amazing energy. They bring so much creativity to teaching.
If you ever have the chance I would recommend trying a class.
I can guarantee it will be like nothing you have ever tried before.

Get crunching & get a head start for the summer!
Grab your weights!
Lay down on the floor or mat, whatever. Knees are bend and feet are flat on the floor.
Grab you dumbells and raise them directly over your shoulders. (arms are straight up)
Exhale and begin your crunch. At the top of your crunch hold for 5-8 seconds return to first position and repeat.
Hope you enjoy this one!

Question?
So I am putting it on here to see if anyone out here might be able
to help me.
I recently came across something like this: "...the health benefits of tickling are well documented. Laughter from tickling lowers blood pressure, decreases stress hormones, and increases infection fighting antibodies. Tickling is also a great workout for your diaphragm, abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg, and back muscles. It is estimated that tickling can burn calories equivalent to several minutes on the rowing machine or the exercise bike. It stimulates both sides of the brain to enhances learning and it eases muscle tension and psychological stress..."I was just curious if you have ever heard of this before, and if the health links are true?
So if anyone can support any of this one way or the other with facts I would love to hear from you.
Thanks everyone!
